Leeds set to look for new goalkeeper amid Kiko Casilla controversy

Leeds United are set to look for a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window who is capable of competing for the number one jersey.

The Whites face a potential crisis between the sticks after first-choice keeper Kiko Casilla was accused of racially abusing Charlton’s Jonathan Leko.

The 33-year-old Spaniard has been given extra time to respond to the FA charge he faces with the club previously stating that Casilla “strenuously denies” the allegations.

However, according to sources with close links to the Whites, the club’s hierarchy are not taking any chances with Football Insider reporting that Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta will look to bring in a keeper in January.

Under new rules introduced this season, any player found guilty of an aggravated breach of the FA’s discrimination rules will be banned for six matches.

However, the length of the suspension can ve increased depending on any additional aggravating factors.

The details of the allegations centre on a match between Charlton and Leeds in September – a game which the Addicks won 1-0.

It is alleged that Casilla made reference to the “race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin” of Charlton’s Leko.

He had been due to answer the FA charge by Tuesday, November 12 but he was granted an extension which now gives him until Wednesday, November 27 to respond.
