Birmingham City boss discusses January recruitment plan

Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet has told Birmingham Live that the club are preparing for each and every position ahead of the January transfer window should something happen in the run-up to the window.

The January transfer window opens in just over a month and a half and Birmingham City are among the clubs likely to be doing transfer business as they look to build on their current league position by strengthening with some new faces in January.

The Blues currently sit in 13th place in the table, six points away from the top six and to bridge the gap, they may have to bring in some fresh faces. Now, manager Pep Clotet has been speaking about the work going into planning for the window, saying:

“The club is preparing for any position in case something happens. We have a wide squad at the minute so we need to be selective with what we want to bring. I know the club is working very hard and they have already our targets selected. That for me is a pleasure to see in a club.

“The club is as committed as well as much as possible to be able to recruit as early as possible in January. The club has to work a lot and I am very conscious they are doing it, we shortlisted potential targets – we have done all this work but I still think there is more to come from this squad from now until Christmas.

“My personal point of view is I am very happy how the balance is in the squad and what everyone can bring. Obviously, in the club we have spoken that we should only look for players that can be a real help, to be different.

“I see the club on the right track in case something happens. That’s what every club should do, be prepared, that’s nothing new for me, nothing new for the players. The good thing is I see a lot of good diligence in case something happens it is prepared and done on time.”
