Leeds United man selected for international duty despite missing last two games

Leeds United’s versatile left sided player Gjanni Alioski has been selected for North Macedonia’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers despite the fact that he has missed the last two Sky Bet Championship games for the Elland Road club.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Alioski will travel to Austria for this weekend’s game before the squad head to North Macedonia for a home game with Israel.

By the time they play Israel, their hopes of automatic qualification may be already over if they fail to win in Austria, but Alioski and co are guaranteed at least a Play-Off place thanks to their finish in the Nations League.

Alioski’s last game for Leeds was on October 26 when the Whites were held to a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

It remains to be seen whether or not Alioski will play for his country, but he has been deemed fit enough to travel with the squad, and Leeds United appear to have had no objections to his inclusion.

Leeds supporters will be keeping their fingers firmly crossed that he does not sustain any other injuries if he does feature in either of the games.

Alioski has been a regular feature for North Macedonia so far in their qualifying campaign. He has played in all four of their qualifying matches so far this season, which has taken him up to 29 caps for his country.

Leeds United have a break until November 23 due to the international fixtures. Their next game sees them travel south to face Luton Town.
