Cardiff City open talks with former Millwall boss over managerial vacancy

Cardiff City have reportedly opened talks with Neil Harris over the possibility of replacing Neil Warnock according to the Daily Mail.

The Bluebirds are believed to be looking for a ‘younger and more offensive’ manager following the resignation of Warnock yesterday and have sounded out the former Millwall boss.

Despite being relegated last season, Cardiff haven’t been promotion contenders so far this campaign. They currently lie in 14th place in the Sky Bet Championship and have won just one of their last six league games.

42-year-old Harris left Millwall last month following four-and-a-half-years in charge at the club and is currently out of work. He enjoyed a successful spell in charge of the Lions, leading Millwall to promotion from League One to the Championship via the play-offs and an FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham in 2017.

Harris also has connections with Cardiff having had a brief loan spell at the Welsh club in 2004. With him currently not being tied to a club there would also be no requirement of a compensation fee for Cardiff.

There are also other names in the frame for the manager’s job with Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer believed to be under consideration as well as Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth but Neil Harris appears to be the frontrunner.

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman has told TalkSport that they are swiftly underway with talks over a replacement for Warnock.

“We are very keen to make an announcement sooner rather than later. We are almost there,” he told TalkSport’s Jim White.
