Middlesbrough interested in Premier League defender available for loan

With recent reports suggesting Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala could be on his way out of the club in January, the Teessiders could be in the market for a replacement.

Middlesbrough may be looking to the Premier League for available loan players this up and coming January transfer window, and one player they have identified as a possible target is Burnley’s Ben Gibson according to TEAMtalk.

Gibson has played just one game for the Clarets in the Premier League, and may be looking to revive his career. A return to Middlesbrough could be the way to do it, as his hometown club was where he played the best football of his career.

Still just 26, Gibson needs to be playing regular football, and is down in the pecking order at Burnley, below the likes of James Tarkowski, Ben Mee and Kevin Long.

Boro find themselves in trouble, with just 13 points from 16 games, 22nd in the table and the joint lowest scorers in the Championship. With Gibson’s connection with Middlesbrough and their supporters, it could make sense for all parties if he was to rejoin the club he left back in 2018.

He achieved promotion with the Teesside club under Aitor Karanka, and played every game in their Premier League season. They were ultimately relegated, but he stayed the following season before moving on Burnley.

He was called up to the England squad in 2017 whilst playing for Middlesbrough, but didn’t receive a cap, as he was an unused substitute in the Three Lions’ World Cup Qualifier against Lithuania.
