Match Report: Hull City 0-1 West Brom

West Bromwich Albion were the visitors to the KCOM Stadium on Saturday when the division’s two in-form teams met and it was the Baggies who got all three points thanks to a wonderful Jake Livermore strike.

Albion boss Slaven Bilic opted to make one change from the team that secured a 2-0 win at Stoke when naming his starting line-up with the impressive Hal Robson-Kanu coming in for Charlie Austin with them beginning in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Hull also lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation but with a fluid front four that saw Jarrod Bowen operate as a false nine with Jackson Irvine slightly more withdrawn.

Out wide, Kamil Grosicki started on the left with Josh Bowler on the right.

The first half saw West Brom dominate possession with Hull looking to counter attack on the league leaders. It was a fascinating opening with both teams creating good chances but it was the hosts who had the first real opportunity.

Diangana was robbed of possession wide on the left and a wonderful pass from Irvine then played Grosicki clean through on goal but he fired wide when he should have scored.

Albion responded with Phillips seeing a 25-yard strike parried away by Hull keeper George Long. Then came the breakthrough.

Phillips played a short corner to Pereira who then found Livermore on the edge of the box and he then unleashed an unstoppable strike in the bottom corner from all of 25-yards. The midfielder didn’t celebrate out of respect to his former club but it was some strike!

Hull then thought they had equalised only for the goal to be ruled out. After Bowler sent in a cross from the right, Irvine swept it towards goal only to see his effort spectacularly stopped by Johnstone which allowed Bowen to poke it into an empty net but the linesman had raised his flag for offside.

The Tigers started strongly in the second half with Grosicki having a shot blocked by Bartley. Bilic then made his first change with Krovinovic replacing Phillips which saw Pereira move out to the right and the substitution appeared to prove dividends.

Some exquisite build up play involving Krovinovic saw Sawyers play in Diangana but the on-loan West Ham saw his strike go the wrong side of the post. Pereira then had a strike which curled over from inside the box.

West Brom then saw out the game well with Hull being restricted to limited chances and in truth, the workrate of the Baggies saw them deserved winners.
