Peterborough beaten in thriller on the Fylde Coast

Peterborough United fell to their fourth Sky Bet League One defeat of the season this weekend, as they were beaten in a seven goal thriller on the Fylde Coast against Blackpool.

Goals were always guaranteed, with Posh being the top goal scorers in England before the game start, and it seemed that things were going to to the way of the visitors, when Mo Eisa’s deflected shot found the bottom corner to give Posh the lead.

Despite being behind, Blackpool looked the stronger of the two sides, and their dominance was rewarded when Niall Mason put through his own net following a long goal kick from the Tangerines in the 27th minute.

The turnaround was complete in the 41st minute, when Armand Gnanduillet pounced after Posh keeper Pym could only parry MacDonald’s cross from the left hand side.

But as is the case with Posh so far this season, they are never out of a game, and they pulled level in the final minute of the half. Dan Butler’s ball from the left was headed home by Ivan Toney for his 12th goal of the season, and undeservedly Posh went in level at half time.

It did not take long in the second half for Blackpool to retake their lead, but it came in controversial style. Posh captain Mark Beevers fouled Gnanduillet, who stepped up himself to restore Blackpool’s advantage.

It stayed that way until the 71st minute, when Beevers was fouled by Ryan Edwards in the Blackpool box, and Marcus Maddison stepped up and converted to make it 3-3.

Posh has looked defensively poor all afternoon and their misery was complete just three minutes after the equaliser, when a quick break away from the hosts saw Dan Butler turn Liam Feeney’s cross into the back of his own net.

4-3 is how it stayed, but Posh had a great chance to equalise right at the end. Mo Eisa looked set to steal a point for the visitors, but he could only fire wide following Mark Beevers’ knockdown.
