Stoke City expected to sack Nathan Jones imminently

Stoke City are set to sack Nathan Jones.

The Potters have decided they need a change of manager to turn their season around, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Jones, who took over at the Bet365 Stadium in January 2019, has won just six games out of 38 and his side are currently 23rd in the Championship.

Stoke have struggled to adapt to life in the second tier since their relegation from the Premier League the campaign before last.

They turned to Gary Rowett in the summer of 2018 but he lasted just six months at the helm before they appointed Jones.

The Welshman left Luton Town to join the Potters, a club who were competing for promotion from League One at the time and are now in the same league. He won just three matches last season and they have carried on that dismal form throughout his tenure.

Despite winning back-to-back in mid October against Swansea City and Fulham, Stoke have slumped back into poor form with consecutive defeats against Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall.

The likes of Chris Hughton and Jose Gomes are two early names in the frame to replace Jones when the Potters announce his departure.

The 46-year-old will need to reinstate his reputation in the Football League after a difficult spell in Staffordshire. He was given a whole summer to prepare for his term and made numerous signings but his ideas and methods simply haven’t worked.
