Leeds United midfielder reveals two former Whites stars helped him make Elland Road move

Speaking on the Talking Shutt Podcast (quotes via Leeds Live), Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has revealed that the advice of former Whites players Jonathan Woodgate and Jonathan Douglas helped persuade him to join the club.

Leeds United brought in midfielder Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough back in January 2018 and since then, he has played a total of 52 matches for the club, featuring frequently under Marcelo Bielsa this season prior to being ruled out through injury.

And now, he has been speaking about his decision to make the move to Leeds United in the early stages of last year, revealing that two former Leeds players helped him made the decision to join the club.

Speaking on the Talking Shutt Podcast, Forshaw has said former Leeds midfielder Jonathan Douglas – who played over 150 times for Leeds from 2005 to 2009 – and former centre-back Jonathan Woodgate both played a part in his decision to join the Whites. He said:

“When [Middlesbrough] out of the Premier League, the club felt a little bit all over the place. I just fancied something different. Something stuck in my mind from when I was at Brentford. Jonathan Douglas told me ‘If you ever have the opportunity to play for Leeds, you wouldn’t let it pass you by.

“I felt when I had the chance to go, a couple of years ago, it was the right time as well. It felt like Leeds were really on the up again, starting to recruit well and you could see what was happening with the owner and stuff.

“[It was] a touch lucky for me, in my career, that was the right stage for me and Leeds were the ones that came knocking.

“I remember Woody [Woodgate] saying the exact same as what Jonathan Douglas said, that you’re signing for a huge club. A whopper of a club’ were his words. He rang me when I was coming to meet Victor [Orta] and said ‘enjoy it, it’s a great club.”
