Blackburn Rovers bring Manchester City youngster in on trial

A report from the Lancashire Telegraph has confirmed that Manchester City youngster Timi Sobowale has joined Championship side Blackburn Rovers on trial, linking up with their Under-23s side for a short period of time.

Blackburn Rovers Under-23s manager Billy Barr has confirmed that they have brought in Manchester City’s young defender Timi Sobowale in on trial as their second-string side deals with a number of injury problems.

Sobowale, 17, has linked up with Rovers’ Under-23s side with the likes of Joe Grayson, Charley Doyle and Louis Annesley all out through injury. The youngster will spend the next few weeks with the Championship side’s second-string side before a decision regarding his long-term future is made by the club.

Under-23s boss Billy Barr spoke about the arrival of Sobowale, going on to discuss some of his current defensive injury problems, saying:

“He (Sobowale) will be in for a couple of weeks and we’ll see how he goes.

“Charley is going to be out for a bit. He did something innocuous in training but it turns out he’s damaged some ligaments. We’re looking at five to six weeks. Joe Grayson, I don’t know how long that will be, he’s working with the first-team physios.”

Sobowale has been with the Manchester City youth academy for over a year now, making the move from Irish side Villa FC. Since joining, he has played 18 times for the club’s Under-18s. The 17-year-old has represented the Republic of Ireland eight times at Under-17 level, also earning a call-up to their Under-18s side.
