Millwall in advanced talks with former Stoke City and Birmingham City manager

Millwall are in advanced talks with Gary Rowett regarding their vacant managerial position according to Sky Sports Sources.

The Lions are hopeful of concluding a deal within the next 48 hours for the former Stoke City and Birmingham City manager who has been out of work since his contract was terminated in January of this year.

Rowett who also enjoyed a spell at Derby County is very highly rated by the hierarchy at Millwall and they are hoping to appoint him before this weekend’s game against his former club Stoke City.

The 45-year-old has huge experience at Championship level and with them currently lying in 17th place in the league, this could be vital to their hopes of retaining their status in the division.

Their caretaker boss had this to say following their weekend defeat to Brentford who scored three times late on to beat the Lions 3-2: “I honestly don’t know, I haven’t been told. I don’t know what the situation is. All I was told was to prepare the team for the Leeds and Brentford games.”

“As far as moving forward I don’t know what the situation. I’ve been concentrating day-to-day making sure we’ve been preparing as best we can. That’s all I’ve been focused on.”

Former boss Neil Harris had been in charge for four-and-a-half-years before he left the club earlier this month.

Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth had also been linked with the job but he now looks set to stay with the League One side.

Rowett has endured some difficult spells so far in his managerial career but if Millwall could land him it would be a real coup as they look to improve their form to stay in the league.
