Reading goalkeeper “open to many options” when Minnesota United loan ends

Reading goalkeeper Vito Mannone is open to different options when his loan spell at Minnesota United ends.

The 31-year-old joined the Major League Soccer side in February and has impressed for Adrian Heath’s side.

Mannone, who has previously played for Arsenal, Hull City and Sunderland, has six months left on his contract at the Madejski Stadium when he returns from America.

He joined the Royals in July 2017 for a fee of around £2 million and has since made 47 appearances for them in all competitions.

The Italian stopper has spoken about his situation, as per a report by The Telegraph: “I want to do as well as I can in the play-offs and then have a break. Then we will see, I’m open to many options. I’ve done my job and now it’s down to my agent. I’ve got six months left at Reading, but the new manager (Mark Bowen) hasn’t been in touch.”

When asked about his time in the MLS, Mannone said: “I’m very, very pleased, it’s been a great season for myself and for the club. It’s been everything I could have asked for when I came here. I didn’t know anything about the League or America in general, I had just been on holiday here. But it’s been a very good surprise.”

“We are exceeding expectations. The first two years in MLS, the team had a few issues especially at the back. I’ve conceded 43 goals this season, so it’s a massive cut and that’s been our base for the season. The expectation was for a difficult season, but we got to the final of the cup and fourth in the standings for the play-offs. We’ve already done a great job, but why not go all the way?”
