Former Leeds United midfielder gives his verdict on striker battle

Former Leeds United striker David Prutton has given his verdict on the striker battle which is currently ongoing at Elland Road with an interview on Sky Sports News.

So far for Marco Bielsa’s side, Patrick Bamford has been their preferred choice to lead the line but following Eddie Nketiah’s hatrick for the England Under 21’s in midweek, this has led to fans once again calling for the Arsenal loanee to win a starting berth.

The Whites will be looking to bounce back from their away defeat at Millwall before the international break and has given an insight as to how sees Bielsa choosing his line up.

Prutton said: “Leeds have had a couple of weeks to dwell on that fairly unfortunate defeat at Millwall, and they will be keen to bounce back.”

“Eddie Nketiah impressed again for England Under-21s but you reckon Marcelo Bielsa will stick with Patrick Bamford again up front. 3-1.”

Bielsa has been keen to continue with Bamford so far but Nketiah’s goalscoring exploits is making it a harder decision to leave him out each week.

There has been a lot of discussion regarding missed chances for Leeds and the on-loan Arsenal man appears to be more of a clinical finisher than Bamford and he may be the one to start converting the chances that seem to go begging.

Prutton has also predicted that Leeds will face a tough test against Pep Clotet’s Birmingham City side but believes the Whites will have too much for the Midlanders.

“Birmingham got a great win against Middlesbrough before the international break to end a run of three straight defeats.”

“They nicked it late but it was a great performance and it only served to highlight how inconsistent they have been because sometimes you watch them and they are really poor. Leeds should have too much for the Blues.”
