Could Peterborough striker’s celebration and Instagram post hint at future move to Middlesbrough?

Middlesbrough are keen to bolster their attacking options this coming transfer window, as they hope to propel themselves up the table and away from the relegation zone.

Jonathan Woodgate’s Middlesbrough side sit in 20th position in the Championship table, and have Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher and Rudy Gestede at their disposal up front.

However, recent reports have stated that Boro are interested in Peterborough United forward Ivan Toney, who has scored 10 goals in 12 games in League One so far this season.

He notched his 10th of the campaign last weekend, scoring the second in Posh’s 2-0 win over Lincoln City at The Weston Homes Stadium.

But Toney’s celebration caught the eye of many, as he replicated Robbie Keane’s iconic cartwheel and forward roll celebration. Keane is currently Middlesbrough’s Assistant Coach.

Toney posted the following image to Instagram soon after the win:

Under the photo, the caption reads “Robbie Keane would be proud I’m sure”, paired with emojis of eyes and a cartwheel.

Although we could be clutching at straws here, could Toney’s celebration be just a homage to one of the Premier League’s greatest strikers, or could it be shout out to a potential future colleague at Middlesbrough?

Toney reacted to the rumours linking him to the likes of Middlesbrough and Derby County earlier in the season, stating “Speculation is speculation, that is all it is, I don’t let it affect me.

“You can see that’s been the case because I was in good form around that point in August and ever since.”
