West Brom man “really enjoying” Spain loan spell

Speaking to The Scotsman, West Brom forward Oliver Burke has said that he is thoroughly enjoying his time on loan with Spanish side Deportivo Alaves, adding that he would be open to a longer stay with the club.

Forward Oliver Burke was sent out on loan by West Brom in the summer transfer window to give himself some guaranteed game time, having fallen down the pecking order at the Hawthorns after failing to make an impact since his move from RB Leipzig.

While his time at West Brom has been unsuccessful, he has said that he is thoroughly enjoying his time out on loan in Spain. He has made a total of four appearances for Alaves, providing one assist in the process.

“I’m really enjoying it so far and I feel really comfortable there,” he said.

“The team is good and have made me feel really welcome and I’m playing football which is the main thing.

“I want to enjoy it because you only live one life so why not live it to the extreme and do everything you can? The main focus was to go over there and get game time. That has happened and everything is going well.

“Would I stay at Alaves longer? I just have to see how it goes. If it is going really well for me and I am playing, then I will be wanting to stay and progress. You never know where you are going to end up in football – clearly!  It can change very quickly as I’ve discovered. It is unfortunate I haven’t been able to get the game time I wanted at West Brom but I need to stay focused, progress, and try not to think about it too much.”
