Middlesbrough Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate has given a warning to his players following their 4-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Speaking to Teesside Live, the Middlesbrough boss launched a scathing attack on his players following their first half performance against the Owls.
Boro went in at half time 4-1 down, and that’s how the game finished.
“It’s about determination, who wants it more” he said. “We didn’t want it enough in that first half.
“It was sloppy, I’m not going to sit up here and say it was good, it was terrible, it wasn’t good enough.”
But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as Woodgate looks ahead to Tuesday’s game at Deepdale against Preston North End, where he is hoping for his side to bounce back.
“I just said them, ‘I’ve been beaten 4-1, 5-1, it happens, it’s how you react, it’s what you do the next day, it’s what you do tonight’
“I want a reaction, any time I get beaten, but particularly like that, I want a massive a massive reaction.”
Woodgate grew up in the area, and is a boyhood fan of the football club. He claims his players need to repay the faith shown by the fans.
“I’m from Middlesbrough and I know what it’s like to play for this club and my players need to realise what type of club this is.
“This is a club that works hard for everything they’ve got, this is an area that works hard for everything they’ve got and they need to show that on Tuesday night against Preston.”
