Derby County monitoring progress of Hamilton Academical defender

Derby County are being linked with a swoop for Hamilton Academical defender Jamie Hamilton.

The Rams are said to be monitoring his progress, as per a report by Derbyshire Live.

Premier League sides Southampton, Everton, Norwich City and Wolves are also all believed to be keeping tabs on the highly-rated youngster.

Hamilton, who is 17 years-old, is seen as a bright talent for the future and his side could face a real battle to hold onto him in the future.

He burst onto the scene for Hamilton last season after impressing in their youth ranks and has played for their first team once already this term.

Hamilton represented Scotland at Under-16 and Under-17 level before he was called up to their Under-19’s squad in August.

His side the Accies are no strangers to producing young talent, with the likes of James McArthur, James McCarthy, Greg Docherty and Ali Crawford all playing for them in the past.

Hamilton could be their next big thing with clubs down the border eager to move for him. Derby have made a slow start to life in the Championship this season under new boss Phillip Cocu but are still keeping one eye on the future with him in their sights.

It will be interesting to see where Hamilton ends up. It is important that he plays regular football and doesn’t just go into the academy of a Premier League club now.
