Derby County defender’s career could be over following drink driving incident

Derby County defender Richard Keogh’s career could be over following last week’s drink driving incident with the news that his knee injury will keep him out until December 2020 as reported by Sky Sports News.

The centre back was involved with Derby teammates Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence in last Tuesday evening’s car accident that saw them charged with drink driving and leaving Keogh unconscious in the back of the vehicle.

Keogh could be out until December 2020 after damaging two knee ligaments in the incident which could see his footballing career over.

Scans have confirmed the 33-year-old has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament and his medial collateral ligament in the collision and he could be sidelined for as long as 15 months with just 18 months of his Rams contract remaining.

A Range Rover, believed to have he been driven by team-mate Tom Lawrence, slammed into a tree after colliding with a stationary Mercedes SUV and Keogh was a passenger in the back of the car in which it is believed Mason Bennett had been driving.

The aftermath of the horror crash has been the talk of the football world and the latest news on Keogh’s injury will only intensify matters.

Both Bennett and Lawrence are facing sanctions from the club as all three players from the Championship side had been at a bonding session arranged by the club and were said to have spent hours boozing at a pub after the official dinner ended.

They then chose to make their own way home rather than leaving with everyone else in transport provided by the club.

There is no doubt this latest news will come as a further blow to Derby County. The whole incident has brought a dark cloud over the club and to lose their captain to an injury which could have been avoided will only bring to worsen matters.
