Birmingham City sign trialist on two-year-deal

Birmingham City have today signed trialist Josh McEachran on a two-year-deal as confirmed on their official website.

McEachran who has been a free agent, has been training with Blues since earlier this month and has featured in three Under-23s matches for the club.

The 26-year-old came through the ranks at Chelsea after joining them as a seven-year-old and spent 15 years with the Premier League giants which included several extended spells out on loan, before being sold to Brentford in July 2015 having played 22 times for Frank Lampard’s side.

McEachran has been training with the first team under the leadership of Pep Clotet and has played for the Under 23’s side against Bristol City, Coventry City and Sheffield United and has impressed enough to be offered a contract with the Midlands club.

There has always been plenty of quality to McEachran’s game but unfortunately his career has never quite panned out as he would have liked at Stamford Bridge. McEachran’s vision, positioning and clever passing was apparent in the Under-23s matches when he was influential in helping to dictate proceedings.

McEachran has also won 38 caps and scored three goals for England at youth level so he will be bringing international experience to the current Blues’ side which will surely only benefit them as they look to continue their good start to the season with them lying 11th in the Championship table.

McEachran has been handed squad number 16 for Blues and will be available for the rest of the Championship campaign for Pep Clotet’s side.
