Tony Mowbray backing Blackburn Rovers man to kick on after netting first goal of the season

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has said that he was delighted to see forward Adam Armstrong score his first goal of the season against Reading.

Blackburn Rovers forward Adam Armstrong scored the first goal of the game at the Madejski Stadium last weekend as Tony Mowbray’s side defeated Reading 2-1. And having spent the first few weeks of the season working hard, the Rovers boss is backing him to kick on after netting his first.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Mowbray heaped praise on Armstrong for his work rate before adding that he believes he will be a big player for the club. He said:

“I was delighted for Adam. He works ever so hard. He’s a centre forward by trade but I’ve got him running down that wing, tracking back. It was a big ask of him but he played a key part in us winning the game.

“It’s not the first time he’s bent one into the top corner, when he plays off the left and cuts in on his left foot he can be pretty deadly.”

When asked how much confidence he thinks Armstrong can take from opening his account against Reading, Mowbray replied:

“A lot, I hope.

“Adam was one of the players that probably wouldn’t have started but when he was told he was starting on the morning of the game then that’s something you know he can do.

“Adam will score goals this season as it’s part of his game. Adam’s a big player for us and the days that he doesn’t start he should never feel that he’s not part of the bigger picture, because he is.”

Mowbray will be hoping that his side can make it three wins in their last three this weekend when they face up to Luton Town, who have lost their last two games since returning after the international break.
