Peterborough Chairman responds to Maddison and Toney transfer links

As reported on The72 this week, Middlesbrough and Derby County have expressed an interest in Peterborough United duo Ivan Toney and Marcus Maddison.

The Peterborough pair are valued at £10 million each and given both Toney and Maddison’s start to the season, the interest in the duo is certainly justified, even if the price tag may be slightly out of reach for those mentioned.

Toney has eight goals in eight games, with one assist, so far this campaign, with Maddison having scored five and registered six assists in the same number of games.

Both would add goals and flair to the Championship, with Middlesbrough and Derby keen on bolstering their options to mount a charge on the top six. The Rams are currently in 18th place with one win in eight games, and Jonathan Woodgate’s Boro side sit in 15th.

The speculation surrounding Toney and Maddison has been addressed by Peterborough Chairman Darragh MacAnthony on his Twitter account.

In response to a Derby County fan page’s tweet regarding the interest of the two players, MacAnthony replied ‘Best to ignore all transfer talk pal. It’s bloody September Cheers [sic]’.

Reports suggest the clubs will prepare bids for the upcoming January transfer window, but Peterborough are not prepared to sell and will not entertain any offers until the end of the current campaign.

The original report from TEAMtalk states that although Derby and Middlesbrough are leading the chase at present, Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City and also numerous unnamed Premier League sides are also interested.
