Middlesbrough keen on Wolves defender currently on loan at Doncaster

Middlesbrough are one of three clubs tracking Wolves defender Cameron John, who is currently plying his trade out on loan at Doncaster Rovers.

According to The Daily Mail, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Middlesbrough are all keen on Wolves’ Cameron John, who has impressed in his loan spell in League One so far with Doncaster.

The centre back has played eight games so far in the third tier, and has scored two goals. All three sides reportedly has scouts watching the 20 year old as Doncaster beat Peterborough 2-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

John is in his final year of his contract, although Wolves do have the option to extend his current deal for a further year. If he was to return to Molyneux, he would have to dislodge the likes of Conor Coady, Willy Boly, Ryan Bennett and Jesus Vallejo, which could prove a difficult task for the young defender.

Middlesbrough are currently short in numbers in defence, with George Friend and Hayden Coulson missing through injury, as is utility man Jonny Howson, who has filled in at right back when needed this season.

John could also prove a long term option in defence with Boro captain Dael Fry currently being tracked by Premier League big hitters Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Jonathan Woodgate’s side would reportedly be willing to part with Fry for a bid in the region of £20 million, and John could provide a good player to have in the ranks without having to break the bank.
