Chris Martin has said he had opportunities to leave Derby County this summer but wanted to stay at Pride Park.
The 30-year-old striker came off the bench to score a late equaliser for the Rams against Leeds United at the weekend.
Martin had fallen out-of-favour with the Rams over the past few seasons after spending time out on loan at Fulham, Reading and Hull City.
He now wants to fight for a starting place with Phillip Cocu’s side.
The experienced forward has spoken about his opportunities to depart in the summer, as per a report by Derbyshire Live: “I had a couple. But I always said to my agent I didn’t want to. It’s obviously his job to tell me if anything comes up, but I said no to all of them.”
“I felt I had something to offer here and hopefully that decision will be vindicated as the season goes on. From a personal point of view I didn’t want to go out on loan again this season. Maybe some decisions weren’t right to move on, they were motivated by wanting to play – I have done that throughout my career.”
He added: “I felt I still had something to offer here and I still do feel that.”
Martin’s career of late has stalled and he only managed two goals in 31 appearances on loan at Hull last season. However, having bagged at Leeds on Saturday, could his confidence come rolling back now?
