Birmingham City fined by the FA over Jack Grealish attack

Birmingham City have been fined by the FA over the attack on Jack Grealish as confirmed on their official website.

The second city derby against Aston Villa back in March was marred by the incident which involved a Blues fan running onto the pitch and physically attacking Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Birmingham City fan Paul Mitchell was jailed for 14 weeks for the attack, which took place in the ninth minute of the derby clash last season.

The club submitted it used all due diligence but was found to have failed to ensure that its spectators and all persons purporting to be its supporters or followers, conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from improper and/or violent behaviour and/or refrained from encroaching onto the pitch area during the EFL Championship fixture against Aston Villa on 10 March 2019.

Captain, Grealish recovered from the attack and was fine to continue and then went on to score the only goal of the game in the victory for the Villans.

The victory was part of a winning run which took Aston Villa to the Championship play-off final and eventually secure promotion to the Premier League.

Despite Blues’ response the FA were stern in their decision regarding the incident.
