Blackburn Rovers in talks over deal for ex-Premier League midfielder

A report from the Lancashire Telegraph has said that Championship side Blackburn Rovers could look to make a move for free agent midfielder Lewis Holtby, having held interest in his services over the course of the summer transfer window.

A number of clubs from the football league have been active in the free agent market over the course of the past few weeks since the closure of the summer transfer window, now, it has been claimed that Blackburn Rovers could be the latest to look to bring in some further reinforcements on a free transfer.

German midfielder Lewis Holtby – formerly of Premier League side Spurs – is a free agent after departing Hamburg at the end of last season. He was reportedly earmarked as a potential option by Tony Mowbray as they looked to bolster their midfield options in the summer and now, the Championship side could look to rekindle their interest.

It is said that Rovers are leading the chase for the three-time German international. Talks are ongoing between the appropriate parties and a deal could be reached soon, it is added.

Thed 28-year-old attacking midfielder has played the vast majority of his football in Germany over the course of his career. He came through the youth academy at Alemmania Aachen and made his breakthrough into senior football with them before joining Schalke. He spent three and a half years with Schalke before joining Spurs.

In his time at White Hart Lane, Holtby played 42 times, also spending time on loan at Fulham. Since then, he has been playing his football for Hamburg, where he amassed 138 appearances. Now, asa  free agent, it will be interesting to see if Blackburn Rovers win the race for his signature.
