Grant McCann happy to give Hull City bit-part players game time in Under-23s friendly

Hull City manager Grant McCann has said to the club’s official club website that he was pleased to see a number of players pick up more game time in a behind closed doors game against the club’s Under-23s side.

With the likes of summer signings Ryan Tafazolli, Leo da Silva Lopes and Josh Bowler all having limited game time in the early stages of the season, Hull City played a friendly against the club’s Under-23s to get some more minutes into their players during the international break.

Striker Tom Eaves was also involved and manager Grant McCann has said that he was pleased to have given players such as Eaves and co minutes against David Beale’s side. He said:

It was really good to get minutes into some of the players that haven’t played too much in the opening month of the season.

“The likes of Ryan Tafazolli, Josh Bowler and Leo (Da Silva Lopes), who has been in and out of the team in a variety of positions.

“Then there was Tom Eaves, who leading up to next weekend’s Wigan game wouldn’t have played for almost three weeks, so it was important to give him some minutes as well.

“Robbie McKenzie was another one. There were a lot of players we needed to get some minutes into and it was great to do so.

“The game also gave me a really good opportunity to have a look at some of our U23s, who I was really impressed with.

“It was a really good game actually and I was really pleased with their performance levels considering they had only played another friendly game against Manchester United, which they won 5-0, two days earlier.

“That was great to hear and, as I say, I was impressed by what I saw from them in the game.”
