Recently released former-Middlesbrough goalkeeper speaks out on his future

Middlesbrough fan favourite Dimi Konstantopoulos was not offered a new contract at the end of last season, and ended his six year affiliation with the Teesside club.

The goalkeeper is now without a club, and despite rumours linking him to clubs in the United Arab Emirates, as well as a return to Hartlepool, but nothing is concrete as of yet.

Speaking on The Boro Breakdown Podcast, Konstantopoulos discussed his time with Pools, Middlesbrough and what’s next in his career.

“We had some conversations towards the end of the season and it looked like it was going to be the case of signing again, but obviously things change in football” he said.

“The conversations were with the previous manager but things change, the philosophy changes. That’s the football business.

“At the end of the season I realised I had to look for a new challenge. I’m doing my coaching badges but i still have the itch to play football and want to keep diving about.

“When I wake up one morning and don’t have the desire to do that I’ll pack it in.

“Physically I feel OK. If the game gets too fast for me I’ll stop.

“I’ll decide where I want to be next. There’s no pressure. Then I’ll take it year by year.”

At 40 years of age, ‘Dimi’ as he is known, is still eager to get playing again, but it is a case of just waiting for the right opportunity to arise before deciding on his next club.
