Leeds United linked with Hamilton centre half on loan deal

Leeds United are being linked with a loan deal for Hamilton Academical centre half George Stanger according to The Evening Times.

The young defender is drawing attention from clubs around the country but is believed that the Championship high-fliers are favourites to capture his signature.

Hamilton manager Brian Rice is a huge admirer of the youngster but he is not yet thought to have Stanger in his first team plans.

The Whites have been monitoring his progress but they are also believed to be keen on a permanent switch for the 19-year-old.

However with Hamilton keen to see how he develops they would prefer a loan deal for the centre back rather than see him move away permanently to another club.

Stanger is a New Zealand under-23s international and was recently called up to their squad for an Australia challenge match.

The defender would seemingly be an ideal fit for a Bielsa side with him wishing to ‘play the ball out from the back’ as well as being able to defend first and foremost.

Stanger is also a versatile defender having played in various positions for the Scottish side which would also appeal to Marco Bielsa. Leeds are a little-short of depth at left-back with the injury-prone Barry Douglas the only experienced and fully-fledged left-back at Bielsa’s disposal.

Leif Davis is promising but young and while Alioski and Dallas can fill in, they aren’t long term solutions to the problem.

Stanger certainly seems to be a player of the future and a loan deal would be suitable for both player and clubs with him being able to experience a taste of English football as well as maturing in his development at a well established Championship club.
