Borthwick-Jackson, who is a former England Under-20 international, has played 14 times for United’s first team so far in his career.

He has also had loan spells away from Old Trafford in the past with the likes of Wolves, Leeds United and most recently Scunthorpe United.

The left-back is pleased to have now joined Tranmere and has told their website: “I’m delighted and I can’t wait to get started. I think it’s a case of me getting back to my best and showcasing what I can do to help Tranmere finish as high up the league table as possible.”

The manager was keen, and he wanted me. I’m looking forward to working with him and that’s half the battle to have a manager like that. He said he knows my quality and he wants me to get back enjoying my football.”

The Whites boss Micky Mellon said: “We’re delighted to bring Cameron to the Club. He will bring us quality and competition for places in an area of the team where we need it. Cameron is at a stage where he needs to get his career going again and we’re really happy that he has agreed to do that at Tranmere Rovers.”
