Bolton Wanderers complete nine deadline day signings

Over the course of transfer deadline day, League One side Bolton Wanderers announced the signings of nine new players, who will come in to bolster Keith Hill’s ranks after a chaotic summer.

With Ken Anderson’s association with Bolton Wanderers coming to an end thanks to a late takeover courtesy of Football Ventures, the club moved quickly and effectively to add some much-needed experience to their squad of youngsters.

And, on deadline day, manager Keith Hill managed to sign nine new players. During his time at Rochdale, Hill was on a limited budget and with such a small amount of time available to bring in new players before the end of the window, he put his skills to the test by signing nine new players on deadline day.

On a hectic deadline day at the University of Bolton Stadium, the players who joined were:

Thibaud Verlinden (loan) – Verlinden, 20, joins the club on loan from Championship side Stoke City and he will remain with the club until January. The Belgian winger joined Stoke as a youngster back in 2015 and has made seven senior appearances since, playing once this season.

Liam Bridcutt (loan) – The vastly experienced midfielder is an impressive coup for Wanderers. Having played for Brighton, Sunderland and Leeds United, Bridcutt joins from Nottingham Forest on loan until January and has played a total of 315 games in his career.

Will Buckley – Buckley left Bolton earlier this summer and has returned to the club. The 29-year-old also comes with plenty of experience and he will now be hoping to add to his total of 60 appearances for Bolton, in which he scored seven times and provided five assists as well.

Jake Wright (loan) – Centre-back Wright leaves Sheffield United to join Bolton, bringing with him masses of Football League experience. He has made over 300 career appearances, playing for the likes of Bradford, Brighton and Oxford along the way.

Ali Crawford – Crawford has had his contract with Doncaster Rovers cancelled to allow him to join Bolton and will remain with the club until the end of the season. During his time at the Keepmoat Stadium, the playmaker scored three goals and provided five assists but has fallen down the pecking order under Darren Moore.

Chris O’Grady – At 33, O’Grady too will add significant experience to Bolton’s side. The striker has played for a number of Football League over the course of his career and having left Oldham earlier this summer, he now links up with Keith Hill’s side.

Josh Emmanuel – Emmanuel has joined Wanderers until the end of the season after leaving Ipswich Town. The 22-year-old right-back has played in both League One and the Championship after coming through the academy at Ipswich.

Joe Bunney – Joe Bunney, a 25-year-old left-back, has joined on a free transfer from Northampton Town. He worked with Keith Hill during his time at Rochdale and now the two will be hoping to rebuild their previous relationship in a new environment.

Daryl Murphy – The last of the signings Bolton completed was Daryl Murphy, who joined from Nottingham Forest on a free transfer. The veteran striker has played 455 matches over the course of his long career and is not ready to call it a day yet, signing on with Bolton until the end of the season.
