21-year-old Hastie, a recent signing for the Gers from Motherwell on a free transfer, arrives with a definite pedigree and expectation of potential. On loan spells away from Motherwell, Hastie impressed at Alloa Athletic (23 games/three goals/four assists) and Airdrieonians (32 games/four goals/six assists).
Hastie is hot property in Scotland having made his breakthrough into Motherwell’s first-team last season, with a number of Championship sides being linked with a move for the winger earlier this year, with Derby County and Hull City among those previously linked.
However, he instead opted to remain in Scotland, linking up with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers earlier this summer. It has been said that Leeds tried to bring the 21-year-old to Elland Road, but the Gers’ sales pitch persuaded the Scot to join Rangers instead. Since joining the club, he has made two appearances.
His return to Motherwell saw him feature 18 times last season, impressing in scoring seven goals and aiding with one assist. Now it appears that his football development is to continue in England with Rotherham, Leeds United’s South Yorkshire neighbours from just down the M1. According to the Millers website, this is a deal that is subject to the usual ratifications by the EFL and the FA.
Rotherham sit in 13th position in the Sky Bet League One table after their opening five games on seven points. The South Yorkshire side will be hoping that the highly-rated left-winger might be that key signing who could unlock League One defences.
