Failed Leeds United transfer target heading back to old club

Leeds United were an almost perfect three-out-of-four in landing their identified targets over the summer 2019 transfer window. For Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites, it was so close, but not close enough.

Helder Costa, Ben White and Jack Harrison joined the Elland Road outfit from Wolves, Brighton and Manchester City respectively. The only target not to materialise was Liverpool winger Ryan Kent.

Leeds were said to have tried to land him, Marcelo Bielsa going as far as to watch the Liverpool youngster in person in a friendly for the Reds against Bradford City. Reports at the time went as far as saying that Bielsa had met Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

To cut to the chase, whatever deal was in the offing stayed in the offing, Leeds and Liverpool being more than a canal apart in what sort of deal was to be done. Liverpool were said to be wanting a straight sale valued in the region of £10million whilst Leeds United were looking for a loan-to-buy arrangement.

What was Leeds United’s loss looks to be Rangers’ gain as the Scottish giants look to be readying to sign the former Whites target per Sky Sports. They say that the Gers “are closing on a £7m deal to sigh former loanee Ryan Kent from Liverpool.” They state that the 22-year-old, who scored six goals and added six assists whilst on loan at Ibrox last season, is “keen to leave Liverpool before the close of the European transfer window.”

A deal wasn’t able to be struck in weekend talks but Sky Sports seem the think that a transfer that evaded Leeds United is just around the corner for Rangers.
