Preston North End striker attracting interest from Scottish Premiership pair

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Preston North End youngster Connor Simpson is attracting interest from Scottish Premiership duo Hibernian and Hearts.

With the transfer window for Scottish clubs closing on Monday at 5 pm, Hearts and Hibernian are two sides who could look to pull off some late transfers before the window closes. One player who the Scottish Premiership pair are said keen on is Preston North End youngster Connor Simpson.

The 19-year-old striker is said to be of interest to the duo and both Hearts and Hibernian have reportedly enquired about his availability heading into the final stages of the summer transfer window. Simpson is far down the pecking order at Deepdale, with the likes of Sean Maguire, Louis Moult, David Nugent and Jayden Stockley all battling it out for a place in Alex Neil’s side.

Having come through the youth academy and making his breakthrough into senior football with Hartlepool United (10 appearances, one goal), Simpson joined Preston in 2018 and has made one appearance for the senior team since, coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last year.

He spent the second half of last season out on loan, gaining some more senior football experience with Carlisle United down in League Two. During his time with the club, he made eight appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist along the way.

With the window closing on Monday evening, it will be interesting to see if the reports from TEAMtalk materialise into anything serious or if Simpson remains with Preston.
