Sky Sports News journalist Keith Downie has reported that as a result of their rejected bid for Kilmarnock left-back Greg Taylor, League One side Sunderland could look to move for Swansea City man Declan John.
Sunderland manager Jack Ross is determined to add another left-back to his ranks before the transfer window for League One, League Two and European clubs slams shut on Monday evening.
One man the Black Cats had identified was Greg Taylor of Kilmarnock, joining Scottish Premiership side Celtic in holding interest in the Scottish international.
Taylor joined Kilmarnock in 2014 after spending time in the academy of Rangers. After coming through the youth academy at Rugby Park, Taylor has gone on to make 131 appearances for the club, scoring one goal and providing 10 assists in the process. He has also made 19 appearances for the Scottish Under-20s and Under-21s combined, making his debut for the senior team in earlier this summer.
Now, however, the club have suffered a dent in their chase for Taylor. Journalist Keith Downie has revealed Sunderland made a bid of £750,000 for Taylor, some way off Kilmarnock’s reported £3 million asking price, opening the door for Celtic to swoop.

As an alternative, Sunderland could look to make a move for Declan John, currently playing in the Championship with Swansea City. John, 24, only joined the Swans last summer but having played just once since the arrival of Steve Cooper, Sunderland could look to tempt him to the North East.
John has played 14 times for Swansea since joining and it awaits to be seen if he will be adding to that total or if he will be making a move away from the club over the course of the next few days.
