Charlton Athletic are set to bolster their defensive ranks by signing free agent Adam Matthews on a one-year contract.
The 27-year-old has been in the hunt for a new club after being released by League One side Sunderland at the end of last season and appears to have found a new home, as per a report by London News Online.
Matthews has been linked with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and a return to Celtic this summer.
He played 28 times for the Black Cats in all competitions in the last campaign and helped them get to the League One Play-Off final by chipping in with seven assists.
The Wales international started his career at Cardiff City and rose through the youth ranks of the Welsh side. He went onto play 48 times for the Bluebirds’ first-team before he was snapped up by Celtic in 2011.
The 5ft 10inc defender played 150 times for the Glasgow giants and helped them win the Scottish Premiership four times as well as the Scottish Cup and League Cup.
