According to a report from Echo News, free agent goalkeeper Jordan Archer is training with League One side Southend United after he left Millwall upon the expiry of his contract earlier this summer.
26-year-old goalkeeper Jordan Archer left Championship side Millwall at the end of last season upon the expiry of his contract at The Den, bringing an end to his four years with the club. And, with the 2019/20 already underway, Archer is yet to find himself a new club.
Now, however, it has been reported that Archer is currently training with League One side Southend United as he looks to keep fit and potentially earn a contract. Archer is not the only goalkeeper training with the Shrimpers, too. Ted Smith – who had spent his entire career at Roots Hall until his departure earlier this summer – is also training with the club, with the 23-year-old also without a club.
Archer has amassed plenty of Football League experience over the course of his career. After coming through the youth academy with Spurs, he gathered senior experience during loan spells in the lower divisions with Wycombe Wanderers, Northampton Town and Millwall, before leaving Spurs to make a permanent move to the Lions in the summer of 2015.
In total, the ‘keeper has amassed 232 career appearances, keeping 77 clean sheets in the process. It awaits to be seen if Archer is offered a deal at struggling Southend or if he is with the club simply for the purpose of maintaining his fitness while he continues his search for a new club.
