Blackpool complete signing of Derby County youngster

Blackpool have completed the signing of Derby County youngster Calum MacDonald as confirmed on their official website.

The left-back joins the Seasiders on an initial two-year deal with a 12-month option and has been allocated the number 29 shirt at Bloomfield Road.

The youngster has been an ever present in Premier League 2 with Derby’s Under-23 side whilst also having been named on the Rams’ first-team bench on a number of occasions.

MacDonald was also voted the Under-23s’ Player of the Season in 2016-17 and then went on to spend a period on loan with Barrow in 2017-18, making 21 appearances in the National League.

The full-back is delighted to have finally sealed the move after much transfer speculation. “I’m very, very excited. We agreed that it was time for me to move on and try and establish myself in the game.”

“When Blackpool came in, a massive club, it was something that didn’t really take much thinking about. The team’s flying and I can’t wait to be part of it.”

Despite having made inroads in the youth team at Derby he didn’t make a senior appearance for them even though he has made the matchday squad.

Blackpool manager Simon Grayson also expressed his delight at getting his man. “Calum is a player that we’ve been aware of for some time. He offers versatility down the left-hand side and is at a good age where he will develop. He’s another good addition who adds competition for places.”

The 21-year-old becomes Blackpool’s 12th signing of the summer in this transfer window.
