Blackburn Rovers starlet on “a year to remember” since becoming first-team regular

Over the course of the last season, Blackburn Rovers youngster Lewis Travis has become a first-team regular at Ewood Park. Now, he has been speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph about what he says is “a year to remember”.

Youngster Lewis Travis made his first-team debut for Blackburn Rovers back in the 2017/18 campaign as Rovers returned to Championship at the first time of asking. Upon their return to the second tier, Travis became more involved in the first-team and played in all but one of Rovers’ Championship games from December 29th onwards last season.

And, Travis’ involvement in the first-team picture has continued this season, starting in all five of Rovers’ Championship games so far this season. Overall, the 21-year-old has made 45 appearances for the first-team, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.

Now, speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph about the last year or so, Travis has said that the last season has been one to remember, but he is staying grounded as he looks to further his development.

“It has been a year to remember but I am still learning.

“It’s massive, football is about ups and downs. If I think about this time last year, I can’t remember where I was going, I was perhaps scraping around for a League Two, League One team.

“But from there to now, it is massive, I could not have dreamed about anything better.”

Travis went on to discuss the disappointment of last season’s poor defensive record, adding that summer signing Christian Walton has made a positive impact since joining on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

“Last season we were all disappointed with that. There is no blame on the back four, we defend as a whole team so you can’t be blaming just the back four. We have been working on that as a team and I think it has showed in the last three games.

“The gaffer loves his keepers to come out and dominant the box and I think he (Walton) has done that. When he does things like that he gives the whole team confidence.”
