Swansea City striker says goal vs Birmingham City was the perfect birthday present

Swansea City striker Borja Baston’s perfect birthday gift was the goal he netted to help his side to a 3-0 win over Birmingham City, continuing his strong run of form in the early stages of the season.

It is safe to say that Borja Baston’s emergence into the first-team picture at Swansea City was unexpected. The Spaniard has struggled to make an impact at the club since joining in 2016 but he has come into Steve Cooper’s side to fill the gap left by Oli McBurnie, and he has done so in impressive fashion.

His goal against Birmingham City on Sunday takes him to five goals for the season, helping Swansea to an unbeaten start to the campaign in the process. Now, speaking to the club’s official website, Borja has said that his goal was the perfect present.

“It was the best way to celebrate my birthday with a win and scoring a goal. It is a perfect day. To play the way we did and to get the result we deserved is very satisfying for us.

“I have my family here; my girlfriend, my son and parents. We have to enjoy the day a little bit, so there will be a party tonight!”

Borja went on to add that he is happy to see that his hard work is being noticed by the Jack Army having waited a long time for a chance in the side.

“I have had to wait for this opportunity to come, but hopefully the fans can see that I am trying very hard for the team. I am a striker and my job is to score goals, but I will work hard too just to help my team-mates.

“We have made a good start, but now the tough part is to continue this.”
