“I think we were frightening” – Lee Bowyer on Charlton’s first half performance against Forest

Lee Bowyer felt his Charlton side were ‘frightening’ in the first half against Nottingham Forest.

The Addicks took an early lead through Lyle Taylor and could have had more before the break but were unable to convert their chances. It came back to haunt them as Forest snatched a point thanks to an Albert Adomah equaliser. “I said to them at half-time, that is the best 45 minutes I have witnessed since I have been in charge, I think we was frightening. We created numerous chances and we should have been maybe two-three up by half-time.

The visitors struggled to get hold of the ball and even when they did have it the press from the home side resulted in the ball being quickly won back. Bowyer said “Not just in possession, but out of possession, we was excellent. We was winning the ball back so quick. Our press was frightening to watch for them, but we suffered at the end because we got tired.”

The Charlton Head Coach admitted that he was disappointed not to win the game after the performance his side put in. “Obviously we are all disappointed, to put on a performance like that in an out of possession was great to watch – for me anyway because we work on all that stuff that you have just witnessed tonight. That is why I get disappointed at times because I see that everyday nearly. So I know what we are capable of, so the only thing is that we didn’t get the three points that we deserved top it off but that is the game.
