Leeds United boss backing star striker to continue goalscoring form

Leeds United boss Marco Bielsa is backing star striker Patrick Bamford to continue his goalscoring form according to his pre-match press conference before the Brentford game on the Leeds’ official Youtube account.

Following the departure of fellow frontman Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht, Bamford has been reaping the rewards in front of goal despite the added pressure on his shoulders to score the goals for the Whites.

Such is the confidence in him from his manager, Bielsa has backed him to become the Championship’s top scorer this season. Not since Chris Wood in 2017 has a Leeds player finished as the highest goalscorer in the division.

Chelsea youth academy graduate Bamford, has started off the new campaign in a strong fashion with three goals to his name helping Bielsa’s side to second place in the Championship and remaining unbeaten so far this season.

Bielsa claimed in his pre-match press conference: “In football, thinking about what is going to happen is so difficult, but he has the skills to be scoring in this way.”

Bamford was bought by Leeds for £10million but has endured a tough time at Elland Road even from sections of his own supporters, in particular during the game against Aston Villa last season.

He was also involved in controversy when he was subsequently banned for diving against Aston Villa and in turn missed part of their run to the semi finals of the play offs.

However, Bamford has also expressed how he relishes the pressure on him this season: “I like it,” Bamford said. “I’d be worried if there wasn’t pressure on me. I put pressure on myself all the time. If I score two, I want to score three. If I score three, I want to score four.”
