Carlisle United capture signing of striker on season-long loan from Newcastle United

Carlisle United have capture the signing of striker Elias Sorensen on a season-long loan from Newcastle United as confirmed on their official website.

The Dane at just 19-years-old came through the ranks at HB Koge and became the club’s youngest ever player when he made a substitute appearance against Silkeborg when he was just 16.

He then went onto have a successful trial spell with the Magpies and he played for the under-23’s side whilst he also had a brief loan spell with Blackpool, in January this year, where he made one appearance.

Sorensen has recently signed a new deal at Newcastle which keeps him at his parent club until the summer of 2022 but for now he will be plying his trade with the League Two club.

League One and Two clubs are still able to complete their transfer business and Carlisle have taken full advantage, adding further reinforcements to their attacking line up.

Carlisle manager Steven Pressley is delighted with the signing and said: “We’re delighted that we’ve got this over line. He was a main target, then he dropped off the radar, but it came alive again last week and we’ve managed to see it through.”

“He can play as the number 9, or he can play tucked in close to the 9 and just off to the side. That’s not as a wide player, but tucked in tight and ready to react.”

“He’s very mobile and quick and he scores goals. He hasn’t done that at League Two level yet, but that’s his next challenge. I think he’s a player the fans can get excited about and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

With new strikers at the disposal of Steve Bruce at Newcastle he was happy to allow the youngster to go out on loan and gain some valuable experience further down the footballing pyramid.
