Derby County transfer target turned down Pride Park move to fight for place at Bournemouth

According to a report from The Sun, as cited by HITC Sport, Bournemouth winger Jordon Ibe turned down the chance to join Derby County in order to fight for a place in Eddie Howe’s first-team plans.

Towards the end of the summer transfer window, Derby County stepped up their chase for a new winger as they look to fill the gap left by Harry Wilson, who left the club at the end of last season upon the expiry of his loan deal at Pride Park.

The Rams ended up bringing in Jamie Paterson on loan from fellow Championship side Bristol City, but it has now been reported that the club tried to bring in Jordon Ibe, only for the former Liverpool winger to reject the chance to link up with Philip Cocu.

Ibe turned down a move to Derby County as he is keen to remain at Bournemouth in order to fight for his place in the starting 11. The winger is down the pecking order with the Cherries and played 24 times last season, with much of those coming off the bench.

The likes of Ryan Fraser and new signings Arnaud Danjuma and Harry Wilson are competing with Ibe for a place in Eddie Howe’s side, as is Junior Stanislas, who is injured at the moment. The increased competition at Bournemouth will make it hard for Ibe to make an impact with the club, so it is surprising to see that he has rejected the chance to link up with the Rams and new boss Cocu.
