Huddersfield Town defender confirms transfer to Turkish side

Championship side Huddersfield Town confirmed on their club website on Saturday evening that defender Mathias Jorgensen has completed a permanent transfer to Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Over the course of the summer transfer window, a number of Huddersfield Town players made a move away from the club as a result of their relegation to the Championship. The likes of Tommy Smith and Philip Billing both moved on, and it seemed likely that defender Mathias Jorgensen would join them in leaving the Terriers.

However, a move has not materialised until now, with the club confirming that the Danish international defender has made the move to Turkish side Fenerbahce on a permanent basis. Upon the announcement of the transfer, Huddersfield boss Jan Siewert wished ‘Zanka’ the best at his new club, saying:

“This transfer is one that is correct for everyone involved, so I am glad we reached the deal we wanted with Fenerbahçe in this transfer window. Good luck to Zanka at his new Club.

The 29-year-old has been with Huddersfield since July 2017, joining the club upon their promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2016/17 season.

During his time with the Terriers, Jorgensen has played 65 times for the club across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists along the way. His form in the 2017/18 campaign warranted a place in the Danish national team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he played three times and scored once.

Jorgensen will be hoping he can settle in at his new club before Fenerbahce embark on their new season next week.
