Leeds United teasingly leave #7 shirt free as deadline approaches

Less than 30 minutes and the summer 2019 transfer window will be closed and teams will have to make do with what they have at their disposal until January.

As it stands, Leeds United have completed their summer business with the announcements of French youth international goalkeeper Illan Meslier and Arsenal striker sensation Eddie Nketiah on loan for the season.

The much spoken about loans for Inter Milan duo Facundo Colidio and Ryan Nolan seem to be talks made of ether and destined to not materialise before 5 p.m. ticks over. The mentioned fee, in some quarters anyhow, was €6millon/£5.5million for the Serie A club’s young duo.

But, no, that looks increasingly like interest that will not bear fruit and that will stay as just a footnote in the column inches of various media publications. To all intents and purposes, that looks as though it is work over for the day for Victor Orta and co at Elland Road.

However, quite tantalisingly Leeds United have left one shirt number free, one squad number not allocated. Since Kemar Roofe’s departure to RSC Anderlecht, the Whites have the #7 shirt spare. It’s the number associated with a winger, someone like Ryan Kent for example.

There’s been MUCH talk of Kent joining the WHites, with the Liverpool flyer seen as one of Marcelo Bielsa’s four summer transfer targets and the only one to not have arrived at Elland Road this summer. Bielsa has seen him play in a pre-season friendly at Bradford City before leaving for Australia to join Leeds United’s pre-season tour for the game against Western Sydney Wanderers.

Liverpool are wanting to sell him, Leeds have some money and a spare squad number. There are less than 10 minutes left. Could this be a big surprise before the deadline closes?
