Derby County ready 11th hour swoop for Celtic forward

According to a report from Football Insider, Championship outfit Derby County are readying a Deadline Day swoop for Celtic winger Scott Sinclair after he was left out of the club’s Champions League qualifier vs Cluj – prompting speculation regarding his future.

Derby County manager Philip Cocu is looking to add some further depth and competition to his attacking ranks before the transfer window slams shut at 5 pm tonight, and a winger is one of the positions on his shopping list.

And now, it has been revealed that the Rams could look to make a late move for Celtic’s English forward Scott Sinclair. Sinclair’s exclusion from the club’s squad in the Champions League qualifier has prompted speculation surrounding his future at Parkhead and Derby County could look to pounce.

With his contract at Celtic expiring at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, Cocu could look to bring Sinclair to Pride Park with the Scottish Premiership side likely to be unwilling to let the winger leave on a free transfer next summer.

Sinclair has plenty of experience in the Football League having spent his entire career in England prior to joining Celtic back in 2016. He made his breakthrough into senior football at Chelsea, spending time on loan at Plymouth, QPR, Charlton, Crystal Palace, Birmingham and Wigan Athletic before joining Swansea City on a permanent basis in 2010.

In his two years with the club, Sinclair scored 36 goals and provided nine assists in 91 games, leaving in the summer of 2012 to join Manchester City. The 30-year-old spent time on loan with West Brom and Aston Villa and left to join Celtic in 2016. He has scored 61 goals and provided 34 assists since joining Celtic.

It will be interesting to see if this link develops further with the deadline just a matter of hours away.
