Bristol City want shock reunion with Cardiff City striker as Leeds United swoop for Nketiah deal

According to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke, writing for Football Insider, Bristol City are readying a shock swoop to bring former Robins man Bobby Reid back to the club on deadline day.

Bobby Reid departed Ashton Gate back in the summer of 2018, leaving Bristol City to make a move to the Premier League with Cardiff City. Now, with the Bluebirds returning to the Championship and Bristol City determined to bring in a new striker, the Robins could look to bring a familiar face back to the club late in the window.

Bristol City had been pursuing a loan deal to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah for the upcoming Championship season, but it has since emerged that fellow Championship side Leeds United have swooped in for the striker, with a move to Elland Road now on the cards for the Gunners starlet.

With Reid being linked with a move back to Ashton Gate just a year after making a move away, it is safe to say it would be surprising to see. The club are looking at other options as well with Lee Johnson determined to add more depth to his attacking department.

Reid struggled to nail down a place in Neil Warnock’s side last season as Cardiff City struggled for goals and ultimately were relegated back to the Championship. In his time with the club, he has played 29 times, scoring five. The 26-year-old enjoyed a successful spell with Bristol City after graduating from the academy. He scored 29 goals and provided 19 assists in 158 games for the club.

It awaits to be seen if Cardiff City would even entertain an offer for Reid however, with him playing 90 minutes in the club’s opening day defeat to Wigan Athletic. The deal could be one to watch over the course of the day as the clock ticks down.
