Sheffield Wednesday midfielder poised to join Macclesfield Town

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Connor Kirby is poised to join Macclesfield Town according to Football Insider.

Kirby is set to move on a season-long loan deal as Macclesfield appear to have beaten a number of Football League clubs to the midfielder’s signature.

He has been scouted by a number of clubs in the EFL this summer but he is now seeking regular football elsewhere.

Kirby has made his way through the youth ranks at Hillsborough but they are willing to allow him to leave temporarily to gain regular first team football lower down the football pyramid.

Sol Campbell’s side seem to have won the race as they aim to improve on last season’s relegation fight and 22nd place finish in League Two.

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut in April 2018 against Reading and he has gone to make one further appearance for the first team at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

Kirby signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal in March 2018 and that expires next summer so they are keen to see if he can cut it before they assess the possibility of selling him on a permanent basis.

The youngster has also featured for the Sheffield based side in the EFL Cup.

The midfielder is highly thought of by Wednesday who are still on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Steve Bruce to Newcastle United earlier this summer.

Macclesfield are still looking to make further reinforcements before the close of the transfer window especially considering their defeat on the opening weekend of the league season.
