Brentford plot £3 million swoop for Charlton Athletic striker

Brentford are plotting a £3 million move for prolific Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor.

The Bees have identified the 29-year-old as an ideal replacement for Neal Maupay, who left them to join Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday, as per a report by Football Insider.

Taylor, who scored the winner for Charlton in their opening day 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday, is entering the final year of his contract at the Valley.

He made the move to the Addicks last summer on a free transfer from AFC Wimbledon and scored 25 goals in all competitions to help Lee Bowyer’s side gain promotion to the Championship.

The London-born forward started his career at Millwall but moved on to Concord Rangers after loan spells as a youngster at Eastbourne Borough and Croydon Athletic.

He was snapped up by AFC Bournemouth in 2010 but struggled for goals with the Cherries so they shipped him out to Lewes, Hereford United and Woking.

Taylor switched to Falkirk in 2012 and scored 29 times for the Scottish side in his single year there which earned him a move to Sheffield United.

Spells at Partick Thistle, Scunthorpe United and Wimbledon have followed for him after his stint at Bramall Lane.

He bagged 55 goals in 155 appearances for the Dons which persuaded Charlton to sign him last year and that move has certainly paid off for the London side.
