Leeds United have had a pretty mixed summer transfer window, with excellent acquisitions in Helder Costa, Ben White and Jack Harrison being off-set by big name departures… fans were worried, but not as much following opening day performance.
Leeds have already seen Jack Clarke go to Tottenham Hotspur for £10m this summer, only to be immediately loaned back for the season. The have also resided over the unexpected and shock sale of Pontus Jansson to fellow Championship rivals Brentford along with many, many fringe player sales.
All of the fringe player sales were duly warranted and met with agreement by fans, even the roundabout deal for Jack Clarke was all but sanctioned by the supporters, but the sale of Pontus Jansson was a very bitter pill to swallow, with the Whites faithful not convinced that the club currently have a sufficient replacement.
Another player that is set for an Elland Road goodbye is striker and last seasons top scorer Kemar Roofe, in a move that has gathered pace very quickly since the story broke late last week.
It was believed by many, even backed up by Victor Orta, that Roofe would be signing a new deal with Leeds, but with only a year remaining on his contract that was never an actual concrete notion.
Now it transpires that Roofe (26) is about to undergo a medical at Belgian giants Anderlecht, a club now managed by former Manchester City captain Vincent Company, in a £7m deal.
Sky Sports have all but confirmed that the striker is in Belgum today ahead of said medical and with the comments of Marcelo Bielsa in yesterdays pre-match interview, him believing that the player will be sold, a deal looks very close to being done.
So what next for Leeds United?
I predict a very busy week in the transfer window, with a striker top of the wanted list, closely followed by a goalkeeper and a defender… but we will see what happens in the coming days.
